Feature · Privacy + durability
Private by design. Durable by engineering.
Your voice is sensitive data and irreplaceable material — this app treats it as both. Audio stays on your device until you say otherwise, and no take is ever lost to a locked screen.
Private by design
Recordings are stored on your device, not streamed to a server. When you process a memo for transcription, the audio is used to produce your transcript and then deleted — unless you choose to keep it. There are no ads, no tracking, and the App Store privacy label reads “Data Not Collected.” The point of the app is to give you your words back, not to keep them.
Never loses a take
Ask anyone who records for a living: the worst sound in the world is silence where a recording should be. Record and Transcribe writes audio to disk as you speak, in segments protected by SHA-256 checksums. The moment sound leaves your mouth, it is on storage — not held in memory waiting for a clean shutdown that might never come.
- Screen locks? The take is safe.
- Battery dies mid-sentence? Everything up to that second is on disk.
- Switched apps, took a call? The memo survives.
The same engineering carries over to the Apple Watch app, which records durably on the watch and hands memos to your iPhone with integrity checks.
Why this matters for what you record
The recordings worth transcribing are the ones you can’t re-create: the interview that took weeks to schedule, the decision meeting, the idea that showed up once at 11pm. A recorder you can trust with those is the only kind worth having.
Frequently asked questions
Where is my audio stored?
On your device. Recordings are written to your iPhone (or Apple Watch) as you speak and stay there until you choose to process them for transcription.
What happens to audio after transcription?
Audio sent for processing is deleted after the transcript is produced, unless you choose to keep it. The transcript lives in your app.
What does the App Store privacy label say?
The app’s App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected” — the app does not collect data linked to you for tracking or profiling.
Can a recording be lost if my phone locks or dies?
Audio is written to disk continuously in checksummed segments while you record. Screen lock, app switching, or a dying battery interrupt the microphone at worst — everything captured up to that moment is already safe.
